• I tried and i believe you need to be connected to wifi. Chrome cast and phone both need to be connected to the same wifi to work

• you'd have to use WIFI to access/connect to chromecast. That is, both chromecast and your phone will have to be on the same network. Once you started to stream, chromecast will pull video (if you're watching video) directly from internet (thru your home wifi and your broadband) without going thru your phone. that means, you can actually use your iphone anyway you want while it's streaming including turning off its wifi if you need to. it's very neat.

• Chromecast must share a wifi network with your device for inital setup. While it might be possible to use your WiDi on your phone (if available), I would not recommend doing so, as it will use double or triple data to get the content to your tv. Head back to Best Buy and buy an AC wifi router.

• Phone data is fine, but you better have good signal strength and a huge data plan. Wifi is better.
