Yes, you can plug directly into HDMI of reciever, so no need to run any additional wires to/from the tv. works great. That is, assuming your cable box is already running through your receiver and then to the tv.

It does allow the audio to go through your AV receiver instead of running external TV audio outputs to the receiver. (assuming you want sound to come out of your surround system rather than the TV while using Chromecast)
