We plan on doing the same thing. As far as I can tell as long as the display is on it will show a live feed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can stream 24/7 live video for free in the Google Home app, as long as the camera is on, and is connected to the internet. Please note that Nest Cam (indoor, wired) are not approved for use as a baby monitor camera. Also, the status LED light lets you know when the camera is processing, streaming video, whether they work normally or if there’s a problem. Though the status light can’t be turned off, you can change its brightness using the Google Home app.
