depends on the lighting, just like any camera, if it is brighter outside it will work, but if not then the night vision does not work. best to mount outside.

This is due to the LED's that provide the night vision hitting the glass and bouncing off of it, causing you only to see the camera reflected in the window. Unless you have special treated glass that allows this to pass through it in your windows or have the camera angled in a way that it can see but not reflect off the glass.
