“If you can view the video in real time on a computer, why can't you save it to your hard drive or even burn a CD or DVD (rewriteables)? IOW, why do you ever have to send it to their cloud? The monthly accessing fee is just another expense forever!”

That's the balance. If you prefer not paying for video storage, then you will have to buy another brand. Personally, I dont mind, it stores 10 days and 30 I believe. I have 10 day storage. I can also make video clips and save to cloud and/or my hard drive. I am very happy with NEST. Sure it costs, but ADT will cost too.....so weigh what works for you. Good luck.

That video camera recording to your PC is kind of, well, stolen, along with all the recordings. Which is why they use Nest Aware. YES it is expensive but, consider this... the camera and then service cost are not that expensive vs replacing a single stolen PC, tv etc. And you dont have to have the Nest Aware on all cameras, just the ones that are most important.

They offer a cloud service so you can access the footage from any device, computer, phone, or tablet, from any place you are. And to make money. However, there is nothing stopping you from using a screen capture utility to record your screen if you want to run that all the time.
