“what is the maximum recording time available and what size card is necessary for that time. I'm taking a road trip and need 7 hours of recording time”

Get a portable charger with your purchase. Battery time depends on the setting you have set. Comes with a good sized card. IM NOT sure if a bigger card will work in go pro. Could slow it down. But it’s worth a try. You could always return it if it didn’t perform the way you wanted

The largest SD card we recommend for the HERO7 Silver is going to be 256GB. The full list of recommended cards is at https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations#HERO7. For long shoots on a single card, you'll want to use the lower resolutions and frame rate options. The estimated available recording time will be shown on the screen of the GoPro depending on which card you're using and which settings you choose.
