I believe I also had the T6 prior to buying the T9. The T9 DOES automatically switch between heating and cooling. You set a max and min temperature and the air kicks on if it reaches the max, and the heat kicks on if it reaches the min. Do note that if you are using the geolocation function, it does not allow you to set deep scheduling, just day, night, away, and vacation. So if you wanted to have multiple scheduling options during the day, for instance, you would have to turn off geolocation. Hope that helps!
