Yes, I have done this for many years. Of course I do get notices that the other inks are low...

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do all the time- the ink "bay" just can't be empty but if you always set your printing jobs to use black only, (or "high quality" for two-sided printing) then you do not need the color cartridges to be full. I have been operating the same way for years (I just print text documents so color is unnecessary).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have and have had no problems because my printer won't work unless all my cartridges are in
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, just do not open ink cartridge until ready to use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have an HP Photosmart 5510 that uses 3 color and 1 black. I have had this printer for over a year and the original color cartridges are still in them and they have been empty for a long time. When I print something that has color in it I select black only and the color parts come out grey. I buy 564 black cartridges.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have three other colors beside black and i get a message saying cartridges low on ink and somehow i am still able to print so long as there is no other color on ehst you are printing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As far as I know you can leave them in. I don't think it would hurt a thing.
