Why are the 564xl color cartridges the same size at the 564, how could they have twice the amount? null

Although the ink cartridges themselves are the same size, the ink reservoirs on the inside of the cartridge are larger on the XL cartridges than the standard cartridges.

Depends how big many colors your print involves. The more color, more ink is used.

I don't think that it's twice the amount, but its definitely more than the normal cartridge. Its worth it if you use a lot of ink.

maybe they insert the ink into the cartridge differently where they are able to compress it more

I asked this same question when I first began using these cartridges. The answer I got was that the XL cartridges give you a better quality print as well as the fact that you could also print more with them. In my experience, I have tried them and find that the quality of the print is a little better but the ink itself last about as long as the regular 564 cartridge. so I guess it is really a personal preference.
