The HP Photosmart 6510 does not support the HP 564 Photo black cartridge. You would want to use the HP 564 black cartridge.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have the same printer model. I buy 564 photo and 564 color and 564 standards and XL. I am able to print pictures and documents with no error messages. I have kept regular and XL in the printer and been able to print photos. Perhaps its a faster drying ink type. Both inks work for any of my projects and appear interchangeable. Funny how they like to confuse the consumer to buy both. Compare boxes if they dont delineate which is better for the purpose, use either. I use whatever my kids bought or loaded. It works fine. Good luck.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the box itself tells you specifically which cartridges/printers you can use
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The printer should have a list of cartridges needed for specific tasks but I believe that the black is required in all printers for any text, while there are usually tri-color cartridges or photo quality cartridges for the colors. It depends on each models requirements as shown in the manual. If you don't have a manual, you can download it from the HP website.
