• No. Instant Ink is an optional program you can enroll in, but is not mandatory. You can still buy individual cartridges at BestBuy for instance.

• You can buy cartridges for it. It takes hp 65 color and black ink cartridges.

• You can buy your ink if you want, I actually bought this printer to sign up for instaink to save $ on ink. I was spending $20 every 2 months. You don't have to sign up if you don't want to.

• It has a black cartridge and a tri color cartridge so if you want separate color cartridges don't look at this printer!!!
