• Thanks for your question! When setting this HP Envy Desktop on a side be sure to have the right hand side flat to your surface. The ventilation for cooling is on the left hand side.

• I put small pieces of wood under it to allow room for the fan to get the hot air out. Not ideal, but it works. I am not sure if you could flip the CD/DVD drive internally to allow the vent in the case to face upwards, but I wanted to put my monitor on top of the case, and the monitor's stand would block the vent if I did this.
