“my hp ink cartridges were ran down to empty, i refilled "those" empty ink cartridges with ink, but the "ink cartridge gauge" has not moved back up, how do you get the ink gauge to move back up after "refilling" the empty ink cartridges with ink?”

I believe my book with instructions stated the printer would only work with genuine hp cartridges. My printer is too new and not used often to need ink. But i intend to use hp cartridges. My previous printer in the same line lasted about 15 yrs, I would like for this one to be trouble free for a number of years.
