“Does this soundbar operate without the AC plug. Like with a rechargeable battery”

Hello Tommy, This device does not have a rechargeable battery built in. To use the device you will need to have the Soundbar plugged into a power source such as the included AC Power Adapter.

It uses a wall-wart powe brick which will hog the outlet it's plugged into.
