My unit is EXTREMELY hot on both sides. This seems very abnormal to me. Should the unit itself get hot like that? I have sent it in for replacement. But would love others comments. Thanks null

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. It's normal if the sides get hot. In the insulated walls of the refrigerator there is a heat exchanger coil. This will produce heat. The longer your refrigerator runs the warmer the sides and top will get. However, the sides shouldn't get extremely hot. Yes, mine is hot on both sides as well, but not on the top. It does seem to work OK, but is not in a small, enclosed space, so I haven't worried too much about it.

My unit gets very hot on the back and left sides. It is outside in about 83 deg F air and the contact temp on the freezer is about 113 def F on left side (looking at unit) and 120 deg F on back where it is close to the wall. Has about 3 inch clearance on back and completely open on left. This seems very hot but it is trying to pull heat out of the inside.

I I don’t have an answer. But I also bought an insignia refrigerator. I have never had a refrigerator that gets hot on both sides. I don’t think it’s normal. Mine got extremely hot on both sides, hot enough that I jumped when touched. I bought mine from Best buy it only took it 15 minutes after delivery go it to become hot. I returned mine and got a whirlpool. That’s not normal!

I just bought a new refrigerator (not this one) and it was extremely warm on the top sides at first. However, after about 18 hours, it normalized to room temperature and felt cool (which metal will, at room temperature). I think that it was so warm at first because it was starting up and had to refrigerate the inside (including a freezer) to 40 degrees below room temperature.

My insignia fridge was bought only a couple of months ago it makes a lot of noise, and it also gets very hot on both sides.  I have never had a fridge that does this before period.

We called in the appliance repair people from Best Buy and he fiddled about with the freezer fan but nothing changed after he left.  It is extremely hot here on Vancouver island right now 35ﾟ and my house is really hot because of the heat coming off of the fridge.

I just noticed both sides of mine got pretty hot as well, but after a few minutes later and it was fine. Fridge works fine but definitely will keep closer eye on it
