To answer your 2nd question; The majority of two channel stereos don't have that ability. Unless said so. This is a "two zone" stereo, meaning that it was meant to run one set of speakers or the other, (one set of speakers will be in one room, while the other set would be in a different room). Manufactures know what they're doing, having that ability will probably cost them more money to manufacture, which in turn means less profits for them. If you want that option, then I suggest you buy something else. I also have a panasonic stereo that has the ability to run different volumes on different speakers, but that option came with a price.... More options = more money.
