In my opinion, this has a very good sound system as is. It is much better than any previous TV I have had in many years. If you want big volume, you need a sound bar. If you want good clear sound without blasting up the volume, I think you will be satisfied with this set.

I find it "funny" that you should mention the distance (i.e., "8" feet") that you sit away from the TV as that is about the distance which I sit from my TV. Respectfully stated, it is my opinion that anyone who offers a yes or no answer to your question is not really considering the different variables which may affect this TV's volume levels. I only use an indoor HDTV antenna for my TV program viewing (no cable TV or streaming devices!); however, I do have my laptop connected to this TV where I experience the many viewing options which are available out there on websites such as YouTube.com, Bing.com, etc. etc. I have found that with certain TV stations and/or with certain specific TV programs the volume at "similar" settings "can be" higher or lower from program to program. Also, whether anecdotal information or not, when I am using this TV as a computer monitor, I leave the computer volume set at a "constant" level of 100 out of 100. I, personally, find when the laptop is used in tandem with this TV that the volume levels are noticeably higher than when I just use this TV alone--not "unbearably" super loud which you are concerned about; however! The volume spectrum with this Insignia TV spans from Zero to 100. I have found (when I am just using the TV for over-the-air broadcast program viewing) that even those TV shows that generate a lesser volume that a volume setting between the mid-20s and the mid-40s is more than adequate. Those shows which sound louder can be set, say, between 20 and the mid-30s (or even "lower!"). In my opinion, it depends on the broadcast source! My experiences with this TV ("without" a soundbar!) have been that it's volume is not going to shake the walls like a super loud stereo system or a large boom box of yesteryear would. I hope that this answer helps you and others Best Buy customer Speakers. Volume wise--everything is relative due to all of the variables mentioned above--and then some.
I would recommend:
