• As far as I can tell, the remote is a convenience, not a requirement, except for maybe swapping the temperature indication from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

• You can control all functions of this unit from the front of it or using the remote. Long range of at least 15 feet on the remote.

• Yes the unit and the remote appear to have all the same functions. Button layout is slightly different but all settings can be accomplished with both.
