No it works right away my dog keeps eating my control so I had to buy 2 replacements control

It worked right out of the packaging. I then found our lost remote. So, there are now two active remotes for that Tv, You can also download the FIRE TV REMOTE application to use your Mobile Phone, AND if you have Alexa in your home you can always ask her to change channels for you!
