“Manual (page 6) says you can switch folders on usb by pressing the Mode/stop rec and previous track simultaneously. Not working.... I have 938 songs on usb, and keeps starting at 1. What's up? Bought this primarily for usb music. I have boombox deluxe.”

Please be advised that you are looking at the incorrect user manual. Please refer to this! https://www.ionaudio.com/amfile/file/download/file/879/product/7809/ On page 8, it states "Note: In USB mode, files are played in order by time. "
