Hi Stace, unfortunately I had the same problem and after trying multiple pairs and taking both my laptop and the earbuds to geek squad twice they were unable to explain what was happening. It is likely a manufacturing incompatibility between the earbuds and windows systems because the earbuds work fine with other devices and other earbuds work fine with the laptops. I upgraded to the Skullcandy earbuds for $10 more and found much better results there.
