Can the tripod adjust to get a downward angle? null

I think you'd have to hang it from something to get a straight-down angle. Play with it and figure it out. The camera mount does swivel, to go from landscape to portrait. With that and the flexible legs you never know what combination might solve your shooting challenge!

yes you can, there is a notch on one side of the pod to help you go nearly a full 90 degrees down.
