It comes with a free trial period just like any laptop or desktop. To have them longer than the trial period you have to purchase Microsoft Office or something equivalent.

Microsoft Office apps like Word and Excel are preinstalled; however, without purchasing a long-term Office solution, such as Microsoft 365, only a 30-day trial can be activated out of the box and the app function will cease until an Office license is active.
