“We just want to use this with our DVD player. Our tv has great sound with regular tv shows. But we have to really crank the sound up when we play a movie. How would we set it up? Our tc is a new 75" LG”

Yes. Use the optical output from your TV and all sound going to the TV will be sent to the system.
