“I just bought the LG SL4Y sound bar and hooked it up to my Samsung TV and it seems to only work by using the soundbar the remote does not work at all does it need to be connected or paired, not sure what to do tried new batteries did not help”

Try turning the volume down on the tv and just use the remote with the bar for more volume. Hopefully you used the audio cord that came with the bar and attached that to the tv.

Ensure the polarity of your batteries is correct, this may be the issue (see pic)
