• Its an ethernet switch to give direct wired connections to your modem. It's not a hub. I have this, modem, and google mesh.

• Do not know what a layer 2 switch is. This plugs into the router and expands the number of internet ouputs. If that is a hub, then this is a hub. It used to be called an access point.
