Don't know what you meant by "soft phone". The headphone and mic have no controls. I am using it with Discord (and have used other multiuser chat programs) and you use settings in the chat programs to specify PTT (push to talk) button/key or Voice Activated (and set the sound level that activates it). PTT is what I use-- so I do have to walk back to PC to reply. Others I know are using voice Activation....they can walk around. Sometimes VA is set too low, so you hear furious keyboard clacking...etc. you may find yourself wishing that others used PTT because they have no "filters" and you hear far more than you ever wanted to hear...
