• They are passive. You will need an amp to drive them

• Hello. Thank you for your question, and your interest in our products. The ElectroMotion ESL X does need to be connected to an amp/AV receiver. It does have a power supply that is used for the panel, but it does still need power from the amp/AV receiver. We hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other questions.
