“I insert and balance in the tub: 2 fitted sheets, 2 flat sheets (queen sized) and 4 pillow cases. Most of the time after the wash cycle I am alerted to the machine being in the rinse or spin cycle by a huge banging noise and the machine has moved. Why?”

This is what this Maytag does. It will bang until the machine stops, or you push the pause button, wait ten minutes, then move the sheets around. Will happen all the time.
