“Is there and expiration date when a physical Xbox Live Gold 12 month card will no longer be redeemable? I am NOT asking if the card works for a year once redeemed. I need to know if I buy it now, but wait 9+ months to redeem it, will it still be valid?”

I don’t believe they expire I’ve had one for a year and I was still able to redeem it.

The card does not expire until 12 months after it has been redeemed. So if you hold it for a time period before activating it, the card is still good for 12mos after it's activation.

You can redeem it whenever you're ready. Play all the way till 9months. Purchase another & redeem it. It will be added on to the months you have left. From the previous card.

The digital code for Xbox Live Gold does not have an expiration date.
