Thank you for your question. This Xbox controller uses two AA batteries (included) and is not rechargeable on its own. To make it rechargeable, we recommend getting a rechargeable battery pack designed for Xbox Series X/S controllers such as Xbox Rechargeable Battery and USB-C Cable for Xbox Series X/S.

You can use either one. Sometimes I use 2 AA batteries and rechargeable battery pack. I switch back and forth between the two.

This does not have an internal battery, you can use it with 2 AA batteries or you can buy the plug and play kit and get a rechargeable battery for it that will charge when you connect the controller to your console or pc with the type c -type a cable.
