The price difference is that if you activate today, you'll pay a cheaper price for the phone (discounted, so to speak), but you'll have to use the carrier offered by Best Buy (AT&T, Verizon or Sprint). If you activate later, you can choose your own carrier, but you'll pay full retail price for the phone.
