Try getting the latest updated driver from Netgear, ensuring 32- or 64-bit compatibility. Otherwise, I'd look at your adapter or os. I've used it in Win7 with no issues.

You may want to disable some of the programs that you do not use frequently to see if any of them are part of the problem
