This will solve your issue if the card is dead or dying. This is in fact the scenario I bought mine for, except it was my desktop that was flaking out. This new one worked immediately, and worked seamlessly once I pulled the dying card from the box. Even though the old card only worked sporadically, the computer wanted to recognize it as it had been the default for so long.

I disabled the onboard wifi , installed the drivers, and plugged it in and blamo state of the art connectivity. Ihave Xfinity 1GB and my old PC reaches 350MB/s down adn 38MB/s up.
