Yes, the handle would touch the countertop if you had it on an island, however, because of the XL size of this Oven, the door handle is beyond the edge on a 25" deep countertop, and the door lays perfectly flat because of the hardware.

It is supported by oven in horizontal position but will rest on countertop if in range of door open travel.  Inside is stainless steel.  Refer to cleaning manufacturer.
