“When the door is wide open does it rest on the counter top or does the hardware firmly prevent it from laying on the countertop? Also can you use oven spray in this for cleaning it?”

Yes, the handle would touch the countertop if you had it on an island, however, because of the XL size of this Oven, the door handle is beyond the edge on a 25" deep countertop, and the door lays perfectly flat because of the hardware.
