“Could the motherboard in this be transferred easily to another case or are there any connections that aren't standard? I've owned it about a year now but would like a new case with better cooling and easier access.”

You should be able to move the motherboard to another PC if you prefer. Do know that the manufacturers warranty does not cover damage from improper installation.
