• You can connect through USB port and it works fine, but for HDMI your laptop should have HDMI eARC or ARC (audio return channel) which most laptop computers do not have. The easiest way to connect it is via a network whether wired or wireless is through the dts play-fi app. this receiver supports dts play-fi

• Yes. Easiest to use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect then tethering but all work. My experience is connecting/pairing over air is very fast and easy with this unit.
