“Can I use external amps with this to power a couple of the speaker channels? I've got two old school integrated amps that have pre/power rca jacks but am new to AV tech and can't figure how to run them with this. Thanks”

Yes. There is a set of line out jacks that can be used for a zone 2 or Zone B. Zone B will replicate what is playing in the main zone and Zone 2 can play a different source. but might assign the height channels speaker output to the line out jacks so then your main zone would be limited to 5.1.
