this is a bluray player, not a dvd player, it can play both, but to answer your question, ive never heard of the player itself going bad or whatever, its the disk you should be worried about degrasing or losing quality, but only after many many years or extrnded direct light. this is because of the ink used in disks is organic so it will naturally decompse overtime. bluray wikl decompose faster xue to how close to the surface it lays.
