The pen, attaches to the reMarkable pro by magnet and charges while it is connected to the reMarkable pro. On the remarkable pro you can highlight in color as well as right in color. The screen lights up, but I do feel that it could be a bit brighter.

Our reMarkable Paper Pro Marker Plus Pen does need to be charged, but it can be charged by attaching it to the side of your device without taking a lot off your battery. You can also definitely highlight in color and use the front light quick setting to turn on/off the light whenever you need too.
