Maybe a bad Spliiter unit? Should feed though. If it works for a while and then goes green it sound like a mechanical issue.

I resolved the issue by connecting both outputs first and turn both screens on before I plug the source into the input. The trick seems to be that both monitors need to be on and connected and if one output powers down or gets disconnected I have to start over.
