I don't know the cfm, but it has several vent speeds and seems plenty powerful. It is mounted above the Samsung convection oven we purchased at the same time. Pleased with both appliances so far.

I'd suggest putting a cloth under the microwave so it maintains its balance. Other than that, if you have the space, I don't see any reason not to use it on a countertop. Just make sure its stable.
