Yes, you just need to have DirecTV set up with either a Genie or mini-Genie. We already had a second TV with a mini-Genie, and simply plugged an HDMI cable (purchased separately) into the TV and then into the mini-Genie. Then you plug in the TV to the power outlet. The screen (and instruction booklet) will guide you through a pretty easy setup for the remote such as setting the time to your area of the country, etc.
