- Answer Hi there, The knobs on this Samsung Gas Cooktop are locate on the front portion of the unit, level with the surface. The knobs should not get hot nor should they ever melt. Thank you choosing Samsung. ^Brad

QuestionThe instructions say with a downdraft I need to leave roughly 1 1/2" clearance from back of the cooktop to the downdraft. In previous remodels I have always put the downdraft right up against the cooktop back edge. What is the harm in doing this?

QuestionAre the control knobs metal or plastic? It seems that Samsung’s higher end models have metal knobs, which is preferable compared to other brands.

- Answer I believe that the knobs are a hard plastic with a metal looking finish on them. I just took it off to look at it.
