Don't mean to imply anything, but are you sure that the batteries are in correctly and that the remote is set to the t.v. or cable box? Also you want to make sure that the t.v. infra red detector isn't blocked by anything, such as a sound bar.

And if that's the case, I would get Best Buy and/or the Geek squad to make your viewing experience the way it should be, with everything working as promised. Best of luck.
