I was charged $40.00 from Verizon. It was called an upgrade charge. I've been with Verizon for over 20 years. What a ripoff...

Please try again later.While your sales person might have been lazy and did not know that there was an activation charge, but should have confirmed with someone who was sure, there is a way out. Call Verizon after you get charged and if you're a good customer for a long time and don't act aggressive like the answer on getting "screwed," Verizon will credit the activation charge. They did for me.

There are actually TWO charges - if you buy your phone from a national retailer or "indirect" company, that company will charge a "set up fee" that's separate from Verizon's "Upgrade". Verizon charges 1/2 rate - $20 - if you do the Upgrade yourself on-line - $40 if they do it for you. (Pieces of the pie to everyone.)
