“Would audio books be able to be recorded on this? They currently show as MP3 Songs on an old IPod that will not last much longer. I transfer the book from a website through Itunes.”

If they're MP3 then it should play with no problem- There's no technical difference between an audio book and an MP3 song- they're both just MP3 audio files.
