“Hanging this over a fire place. I have a wall stud in the center of area and then 24" to the left and right. My TV is 55" and 30#. Will there be enough support to mount to only the center stud? Bracket cant reach 48".”

Yes it should be ok with addition support on the other side with anchors. Ultimately depends on the size of your tv and weight.
