• about 3 inches sounds like a lot but with an 82 it looks snug

• Hi Thomas, The mount positions the back of the TV 1.6" inches from the wall. Depending on the thickness of your TV model, the front of your TV should be around 3-4" from the wall. - Katie @SANUS
