It is a SSD (solid state drive) for starters, much faster and more expensive right off the bat than a HDD (hard disk drive). It is the official Xbox Series X/S SSD made by Seagate, it plugs directly into a slot on the back of the console made for this specific expansion card and it runs at the same speeds/levels as the internal SSD that comes with the console, so you are able to play Xbox Series X games directly from the expansion card. Xbox Series X games can only be played from a SSD (either the internal SSD or this expansion card) if you have any other SSD or HDD you’ll have to transfer games between the external SSD or HDD to the internal SSD to play them. The only games you can play off of an HDD or any other SSD (other than this expansion card) are previous generation games. (Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One X). If you have any other type of SSD, the only real perk is that your games will transfer quicker between the internal SSD and the external SSD. The main reason that this is so expensive is because it is a SSD. If you look up SSD prices around the same range of memory, they will very likely be similar to this price point, some prices are starting to go down for SSDs, but I doubt this one will for a while.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Because Microsoft and Seagate can. There are plenty of lower cost ssd drives that would be able to play any game xbox puts out but instead they partnered with Seagate to rip customers off. I have a 2gb ssd drive that cost less than $100. A 4tb drive for the Xbox One is less than $100. With games getting larger and larger, that 2 tb card is gonna be junk in 6 months, then, because the geniuses at Microsoft only put one slot in the series x, your gonna constantly be swapping multiple $400 cards. The series x is just an all around bad design whos purpose is just to fleece as much money from consumers as possible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These are NVMe SSD's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On computers those type of cards plug into the "Motherboard" to get faster speeds than "Normal" Solid State Drives that would use a "USB" connection! "NVMe" and "USB" use 2 different types of connection to the main board! That's why you plug it directly to the back of the xbox!! It's not using "USB" speeds. It's using "NVMe" speeds. The premium GAMES out now need that speed to play optimally! The games will play through "USB" connected drives, but not "optimally" for the best experience possible! Make sure you have a "TV" with HDMI 2.1 and 120HZ also for optimal performance! You need this and the TV for the best experience!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The speed and performance are designed to be exactly like the internal SSD. It's also proprietary.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.New tech, price is going down now.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Great question TJWannerka the reason that this item cost so much is because an it's my opinion to answer your question is that 2tb is alot for that little bit of space to build for that size. What I am trying to say is rare item if they only make so many, but I think it has alot to do with the ports being backed up and trying to get it over here and that do to covid alot of them aren't be made but like I said just my opinion but I did manage to get one delivered to my house. Inconclusion I hope this answers your question. Hope those pictures help. Later my friend ✌️
